let there be light

When it comes to evidence based skin treatments.. I'm all over it! Having had a skin condition since my early 20's, I am all to aware that clinical facials and cosmeceutical skin care, if not prescribed correctly, can have the potential to cause more harm than good.
In my case, I have Melasma, a pigment disorder that affects facial skin, it is extremely hard to treat and unfortunately, can be exacerbated by heat.
Cue Clinical Light Therapy or Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT).
This is a facial modality that has a multitude of benefits for skin health, involves no pain, no preparation and no downtime, and, also happens to be backed by irrefutable scientific research and clinical evidence!
(ah, yep..I did just write 'no pain' when referring to a treatment that can rejuvenate, stimulate, clarify, heal and calm your skin!)
So how does this work? Let me break it down...
Clinical LED light wavelengths are delivered at targeted parameters with therapeutic intent.
The light emits photons (a measurement of light energy) and these are absorbed by the mitochondria in targeted cells.
Mitachondria are considered the 'powerhouse' of our cells, they are responsible for creating ATP (adenosine triphosphate) our energy currency.
-think of it as in our bodies are cars, the mitochondria is the petrol pump, and ATP is the petrol.. all three are needed for our car to work.
Stay with me...
A cascade of reactions then occur that include up-regulated production of ATP (cellular fuel/petrol) nitric oxide release, increased blood flow, and stem cell activation to name a few... these actions allow increased tissue repair and healing.
In dermatology, light therapy has evidenced beneficial effects on wrinkles, collagen and elastin loss, acne scars, hypertrophic scars, inflammatory disorders such as psoriasis and acne, and it has further shown the ability to reduce UV damage AND also to aid in preventing it! (um, yes, hello fellow Queenslanders and sun lovers.. this alone is solid gold!)
So now I'm done with a quick overview of the science'y stuff.. I have chosen the below wavelengths, used alone or in combination, for my clinical use.
Check out an ultra quick breakdown of the light goodness below:
Red Clinical Light: rejuvenation at it's finest, this wavelength penetrates deeply where it can stimulate collagen production, encourage cellular repair, and boost circulation. Best for signs of aging, scarring and uneven skin tones.
Blue Clinical Light: excellent for acne sufferers or those with blemish prone skin, this wavelength range is able to cause destruction of propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria primarily responsible for acne, and works to stabilize oil glands, ease inflammation, and purify the skin.
Infrared Clinical Light: for healing, this incredible light energy achieves the deepest penetration. Infrared light encourages healing, eases inflammation, helps to battle signs of aging and optimizes cellular function of epidermal and dermal cells.
The science is legitimately amazing.. there is no pain, no discomfort, just supercharged clinical light... and the kicker.. while your skin is receiving all this light love, your skin therapist is still at work giving you a scalp massage that will send you into full relax mode... free naps for all light facials!
What are you waiting for?
Go get your glow!
With Love,
